New Site Design Launched

In case you hadn't noticed, we've made some pretty radical changes to the website over the last few days. We've upgraded our site to include a number of new features including:

A more compreshensive menu system so customers can jump directly to relevant areas of interest without having to drill down as much to find say, a particular sized meerschaum pipe
Wider content area to better
Quick links to various resources including new products as we as some of our blogs
An RSS Feed of New Products so you can keep track of new items to be added to the site easily using the RSS reader of your choice.
A one page checkout to help speed you through your transactions
A tabbed presentation format for MOST of our products so that you can more easily flip through the information available about product without having to scroll up and down the page
- this includes a Related Products tab that shows you what other items customer's who've bought this (or similar) products have purchased from the site
- this also includes a tab for Recently Viewed Products to allow you to quickly navigate to items you've looked at but haven't added to your cart yet.
A "mini-cart" that shows in the right column to help you keep track of items that you've placed on the stie

There are other changes too but these are the highlights of the things we've done to make shopping at the Tobacco Barn a more pleasant experience for you. Please check it out and let us know what you think!

We Mourn the Passing of Marblehead

There comes a time in everyone's life when you have to say goodbye to something you love. Well, for us, that day has come.

Due to decisions made by mega-tobacco companies that supply us the components we use in some of our blends, we've reached the point where we can no longer make Marblehead custom blend pipe tobacco.

With the impending loss of one of the primary ingredients used in this particular blend, we've spent the last few months trying alternatives and have come up with no suitable direct replacement for it.

It is with a heavy heart that we are now having to drop this particular custom blend. Our apologies for any inconvenienc this may cause but we could not bring ourselves to sell you a version of Marblehead that didn't live up to its name.

If you are looking for an alternative to this tobacco (which we always felt was a crossover between Light Aromatics and English tobaccos), you might try Cambridge on the Light Aromatic side or Devonshire English Light on the English side of the fence.
